Results From Saturday’s Match, Nov 18th 2017

Hello folks,

Well, it goes without saying that the weather last Saturday was spectacular for November.  We had LOADS of food in a warm trailer and it was a great day for shooting!

The results are posted here:  IPSC Handgun Match L1 Results Nov 18th 2017

We had Roger MacDonald complete his Black Badge Certification by safely completing the match on Saturday!  Congrats to Roger.

We had many folks that have completed their Black Badge Certification this shooting season and we look forward to seeing them on the Range.

Last Official Outdoor Match for this year – Nov 18th

Hello folks, I hope that everyone is doing well and isn’t too excited about the new gun toys that Santa might bring for Xmas! We are having our last official match on Saturday and we’d love to see everyone out for it! I’ll have a bunch of small stages done up to keep everyone moving. Mother Nature has been kind to us all year, let’s hope she’s gonna work with us again this weekend. Bring a snack because we plan on having lunch in a warm trailer with some coffee and tea hopefully. Set up will start at 8:30am – first shots scheduled for 10:00am. Many hands makes light work! $10 to shoot as always. Looking forward to seeing you on the Range! Level I Match Next Weekend Nov 18th

Hello folks,

Obviously we aren’t having a match this weekend – it’s Remembrance Day!  Make sure that you take a moment to remember all of those people that gave, and some that continue to give, themselves to ensure that we have the freedoms that we get to enjoy on a daily basis.

Next weekend, Nov 18th, will be our last official match for 2017.  I’m hoping that the weather cooperates with us so that we can get out and have one last match with lots of shooters and fun.  Monty is going to bring his trailer again and we will plan to have some heaters going in there so we can enjoy lunch in the warmth.  I’d love to have as many people as possible there as well because I’m going to be putting together the shooting schedule for next season and planning matches across the island, as well as the Provincials.  Lots to discuss.

We will plan to start at 10:00am as normal.  Set up will start at around 8:30 so the more hands the better.  Regular match fee of $10.

Let’s see if we can get some more Black Badges awarded.  Congrats to all of the new Black Badge Certified shooters this season!  We look forward to seeing everyone at the range.

Hope to see you at the range!

NEW Trial Division in IPSC – Production optics (PO)

Hello folks,

IPSC has authorized the Regions to implement the trial of this new, exciting division called Production Optics.  IPSC Canada has put together the following set of rules that we shall follow here in Canada.  This is certainly an opportunity for our shooters to try something new, exciting and relatively inexpensive for us older folks.  🙂

See the attached Rule Set.  IPSCNL shall follow these rules should anyone wish to shoot in the new Division of Production Optics (PO).

IPSC Matches and Range Construction UPDATES

Hello shooters,

Reminders:

  • The range clean-up day at the St. John’s Rod & Gun club is happening tomorrow, June 3rd.  All help is welcome and the Executive was actually out there this week and have started most of it.  Please drop out to lend a hand for a couple of hours.  Lunch is provided up at the Clubhouse.

  • The construction start date for the NEW Range A is scheduled for June 12th.  Construction will happen during the weekdays (Monday-Friday from 7am-6pm) and the range will be closed during those hours.

The match that was planned for Clarenville tomorrow is cancelled.

Our regularly scheduled match for next week is planned for Saturday!  Hopefully the weather helps us get some range time!  Look for further updates during the week.

Sample Stages for April 2017

Hello shooters,

Here are a few of the stages that I put together for our matches here in April.  You’ll notice that I tried to restrict movement around the range as we have no idea what the weather will be like or whether the range will be safe enough to move around freely.  There is a storm on it’s way for tonight and a serious dump of snow for tomorrow (APPARENTLY)!  Click the link below to see the Stage Designs.

IPSCNL 7 Stage April 8th 2017

I just think that it’s time for it all to melt and go away so we can get back out there on a regular basis!

Next scheduled Level I Match is for next weekend, April 8th and then again on the 29th.  First Black Badge course is booked for May 6-7th.  First Steel Challenge Shoot is scheduled for the evening of May 9th!

Also, I have sample shirts for everyone to look at and try on so that we can put in the order for our Club Shirts.  the designer/manufacturer emailed me recently to remind me that his orders are starting to increase as people get back into shooting and we should make our order sooner than later.  Remember, the costs for the shirts goes down with the more people that order them.

See you at the range,

IPSC Match for Feb 18th – Cancelled [Memberships are started for 2017]

REMINDER of THE ST. JOHN’S ROD AND GUN CLUB AGM! This years AGM will be held at the Elks Club, Carpasian Road on Thursday, 23 February 2017 from 7-10 pm. It is very important for our club to be run well in order to keep everyone safe on the range and progress with improvements. For this to happen, we need a strong Executive. Please consider running for a position. The positions of President, 1st and 2nd Vice Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer and three Directors are elected each year. I have been nominated for a position on the Executive and any support is appreciated for the election process.  I’m not sure if other IPSC members have been nominated as well. Hello folks, Unfortunately Mother Nature has not been kind to us at all so far in 2017. The Match that was scheduled for tomorrow is cancelled. It just isn’t feasible to try and go set up a few stages that will be up to our knees in snow. That being said – I am still trying to organize a Match indoors, to see how that would go. We need to get into the shed to see what materials we could take from there to help with an indoor match.  I believe that we have enough resources to set up indoors and make it happen. I’m planning on heading over to Complete Gun Repairs this afternoon to check on something and will get more info. Regardless, I’m sure that everyone is practising their ‘dry fire’ routines at home and will be ready when we finally get a chance to shoot outdoors. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me! p.s. Membership forms can be printed from the website and submitted to the email identified on the forms.
